Well in PvP you can only choose 3 armours from Proph,

And it was my understanding that Strength was garbage for attributes as the penetration factor only applied to attack skills

But I agree with the these armours seem better than Prophs

Thanks, should have thought of that myself but I haven't had my coffee yet..

Also, you can now dye your pvp character orange or brown. Jay.

alot of that armor has situational stats like being hexed or haveing enchant on, or other reqs.

do you really think you can keep up enchants enough to keep the extra armor in pvp? adn 10 armor for having a condition isnt a good trade off

I zhink the Elemantalist's Tempest Robes is a very good trade if you use Attunements.

And a question for all :

What monk armor is going to be the most used in PVP ?

Thanks for answering !

I still prefer Censors over any of those, it is +10 armor no matter what.

the extra health and the armor during a certain situation doesnt cut it imo

and the extra armor on ele, like I said, you gunna end up loseing the armor in the harsher situations because you arnt gunna have enchants on forever

Only two for necromancer? I guess fixing the bloodstained boots wore Anet out.

It's 15, actually. Disciple's armor + draw conditions + melandru's resilience ftw.

First impressions - we'll see what conventional wisdom says a few months from now:

+35 health armor: generally good PvP armor as long as spike is an important metagame consideration. In most cases I see this competing with the +energy armors for most PvP characters. Not terribly important in PvE because the pace of the game is so much slower, and efficiency from armor becomes much more important than margins for error.

+10 armor while enchanted: good in PvE, extremely sketchy in PvP. In PvE you can control your situations much better and stack a buff on the people who need it. In PvP, the person who's most in need of the extra armor will often not benefit, because a target under extreme focus fire is usually being stripped of enchantments with regularity. Basically the difference is in whether or not someone taking hits is going to be getting buffed, or getting his buffs stripped. Consistency is the key.

+10 armor while stanced: extremely build dependent. In PvE a stance tank would love this stuff. In PvP it depends on which and how many stances you have. If you're flashing Distortion on any hint of danger this stuff is pretty hot. But for a lot of characters stances aren't always going to be there and this isn't terribly attractive. Remember how gambling works - gambling on offense and winning can get you a kill, but gambling on defense often gets you killed. There's no need to gamble if the odds aren't really good, with the other options available.

+20 armor while hexed: moderately interesting in certain PvE zones as an armor swap when you know what's coming. Effectively garbage in PvP, because when you do see significant hex stacks they're going to be killing you with degen and armor ignoring damage.

+10 armor while using a preparation: same deal as stance armor. The time that you're getting rocked and don't put a prep up will be the time that kills you, but if you're using a cheap prep that's almost always on knock yourself out.

+15 armor while suffering from a condition: I guess it's cute because people tend to spike with Deep Wounds, but most conditions are degen and armor doesn't help against that at all. Of course if they cripple you to catch up it helps as well. Honestly I don't know what to make of this set. It might be total garbage, or it might be great depending on the metagame. I'm skeptical, but I'll keep it in the back of my mind if conditions are right (sic).

+10 armor vs. physical: this stuff is hot. It blows away all the chapter 1 armors at the very least. If it weren't for the +health stuff this would be everywhere. Armor-ignoring spike components and said +health armor creates some choices for people, though.

Sentinel's: well, I wouldn't pump my Strength this high just to use this stuff. Hell, I'm not sure I'd use it even if I did have 13 Strength for some reason, not with Gladiator's and Berserker's around. It's a cute concept though. Maybe if elemental damage ever became a huge threat to warriors this would be interesting.

As for what will be used for each profession in PvP:

Warrior: Gladiator's and Berserker's. Additional armor bonuses aren't all that hot, not when you're already hardened against normal damage. Knights/Ascalon boots will remain ubiquitous until they fix that little persistent bug. If you use a knockdown skill, take Stoneskins. Not much changes otherwise.

Ranger: Druid's and Explorer's. The profession is a bit softer but both of these sets are extremely useful, either providing max energy pool for an energy-hungry profession (and one that can't use a focus, at that), or giving a bit more health to harden the one profession that *needs* a superior rune to function most of the time. The conditional +armor sets are cute but ultimately the standard two are too valuable to pass up.

Monk: Ascetic's Tattoos and Shepherd's armors are the standard (smell the pattern?), and Judge's on the chest and legs is still a good option for hardening against normal damage. The others will see fringe usage, if any.

Necromancer: Tormentor's (Necrotic) is still the best available, hands down. +10 nigh-unconditional armor on an otherwise soft target is too good to pass up. Scars and Revenant are of course playable if you want the health or energy - particularly on hands and feet because, like Judge's, Tormentor's armor breaks symmetry.

Mesmer: Enchanter's and Masquerade are of course the standard. Virtuoso gloves or boots will of course be a staple until that bug is squashed. I'm actually encouraged by savant's armor, it'd seem to have a place on any character with Distortion. Rogue's chest and legs are valuable for guys who don't need max energy pool and want to harden a bit. Probably the profession with the most choices to make in the future.

Elementalist: Forget chapter 1 armors. Elementalist is all about the Archmage and Battlemage sets now. Figure if you're more afraid of spike or warriors rocking your face and make your choice accordingly.

Peace,
-CxE

Berserker's is my new fav. +35 health, and 100 armor vs physical.

Edit: +30 with Ascalon boots

Oh, and I just realized, Beserker's looks like the armor everyone hates the look of!

(Mushroom head warrior!) Ha-ha-ha!

I like the ranger armor bonuses on the explorer set but it looks...i don't know. The Sentry I don't mind the look it reminds me of old chinese or japanese armor for low ranking soilders or archers. But the collectors version of leather armor in GW Ch. 1 is still my favorite. The Sentail for the warrior makes want to make a warrior/ something-ma-bobber.

erm.... I DO!

seriously, what warrior DOESNT ?

I suspect the answer to that is maybe a W/M... because they need the points in their spells,

I also suspect any W/E using a zealous sword may not...

But I run a W/E hammer warrior with strength and hammer both at 14!...

so my uber Hammer Warrior build will now be even more uber ..

only trouble is I really like my white Wyvern armor, I cant tell which parts of these new armors are..er...Dyeable (if thats such a word)
